Anvil Manhattan

In the blacksmith’s shop, the anvil is the constant. The anvil carries the heat of brute strength and fine touch of artisan nuance. In your favorite finest establishment or living room, the Manhattan represents this duality in a classic mixed drink. Forged with the finest bourbon to keep you warm and juxtaposed with aromatic flavors that sing of quality, durability and refreshment. One in hand is a perfect way to cap off a day tempered by unyielding hard work.

- Joseph Mayernik: Executive Creative Director

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz. Basil Hayden’s Bourbon
  • 1 tsp. of grenadine
  • 1 tsp. of pure maple syrup
  • 2 dashes of Regans' Orange Bitters
  • Orange peel garnish
  • 2 bourbon cocktail cherries

Directions:

Place a martini glass in the freezer or fill it to the brim with ice so it chills while you make the Manhattan. Add bourbon, grenadine, maple syrup, and bitters to a shaker or glass with a few ice cubes, and then stir or gently shake. Don't overdo it;  you don't want the ice to water down the drink. Discard ice from martini glass then strain Manhattan into the chilled glass and garnish with 2 cherries and an orange peel.

This is one in a series of posts about our project, called The Table—a cookbook full of favorite recipes, and the images and stories that go with them, from each member of the Brandtatorship team past and present. From breakfasts to entrées, desserts to cocktails, we’ll be unveiling new recipes to this page throughout the year. If you'd like a cookbook, please contact us. In the meantime, pull up a chair. We’re glad to have you.
